Another halibut....

Celebrating midsummer with bonfires and good food and drink is a nordic tradition dating back to ancient times. Since the weather was calm and mild, I could not resist the temptation to fish and just grabbed my gear. One of our Dutch guests joined me. I gave him a brief instruction of how we would land a potential halibut and (ever the optimist) promised him at least one "flounder" of better dimensions.... After merely 15 minutes of fishing, something "better" grabbed my shad about 30 feet above the ground.... After some majestic, but manageable runs, the fish arrived on the surface. My fishing buddy had apparently listened closely to my instructions and placed the "flying gaff" securely into the fish's head... Well done! At that point, the fish went suddenly completely mad and almost pulled us overboard! Luckily, the solid nylon rope withstood the wild trashing of the majestic fish... We felt a bit like in "Moby Dick"...The fish weighed 48 kgs and measured 158 cm. We could another smaller halibut as well as dozens of codfish from 3 - 7 kgs on almost every cast.....

The coalfish have also arrived , with lots of nice fish up to 10 lbs taken on offshore marks as well as inside the fjord. Fishing for wolffish has also been thriling.... Hot halibut fishing!

Halibut fishing has been hot the last weeks. A trip last sunday produced no less than 5 halibuts up to 60 lbs (30 kgs) plus lots of strikes and big fish following the lure up to the surface. Halibut fishing seems to be getting better and better around Sørøya..... We also hooked lots of bonus cod up to 140 cm close to shore. Savagear Cutbait Herrings Softplastics and Storm shads are great fish catchers. This stuff looks almost more natural than the real thing. We still have some vacant weeks! Please contact us for rates.
